
Melissa Crystal O'Neil, born July 12, 1988[1], is a Canadian performer and actress. O'Neil was the first Canadian female winner of Canadian Idol's season 3 finale, took home the trophy in 2005. As an actress, she is most well-known for her role as Two as Rebecca or Portia Lin in the Syfy science fiction show Dark Matter and as Officer Lucy Chen on the ABC police procedural drama The Rookie.Although she was praised highly by the judges, she was a victim of massive setbacks both in the Top 10 and Top 9 weeks of the finals because she was in both the bottom three and the bottom two in both the bottom three and bottom two. The judges were shocked and advised viewers to vote for Melissa O'Neil, who was clearly the most vocal contestant. O'Neil's performances were constantly praised and O'Neil didn't fall back into the bottom three. Zack Werner, the judge, called O'Neil "a threat to win everything". O'Neil and Rex Goudie made it to the final two of the show on September 7, 2005. After another impressive performance, Werner declared that "The King [Kalan Porter] has passed away long live Queen". O'Neil defeated Goudie at the grand finale results show, September 14 on the 14th of September, 2005. She was also named the third Canadian Idol and the first female winner.
